Owner and Admin Actions
Adminland is organized around two tiers of users. Administrators manage the people and structural settings that keep the account running day-to-day. Account owners can do all of that, plus control billing, storage, and anything that affects the account as a whole.

To get to Adminland, click the ⚿ Adminland button on the left side of the Home page, or type "Admin" in the Jump bar and hit Enter.
Admin actions
These options are available to anyone with administrator or owner status on the account.
Manage people
Add new users, remove existing ones, update someone's info, and manage project access across the account.
Add/remove administrators
Grant or revoke administrator status for anyone on the account. Admins can promote other admins, but only owners can promote someone to owner status.
Manage groups
Create and edit groups of people to make adding multiple users to projects faster. Groups aren't a permission level — they're a shortcut for bulk access management.
Manage companies
Add, rename, or delete the companies and organizations associated with your account. This is also where you control which projects a client company can see.
Rename project tools
Change the default names for tools within projects. For example, renaming "Message Board" to "Announcements" or "Docs & Files" to "Vendor Forms."
Change message categories
Add, edit, or remove the categories available when posting to a Message Board. Categories are account-wide, so changes here apply to every project.
Move projects from Basecamp 2 to Basecamp 4
If you have projects in an older Basecamp 2 account, this is where you import them. The import tool walks you through the process step-by-step.
Merge people
If someone appears on the account twice, usually under two different email addresses, you can merge the two profiles into one. One profile is designated the winner and inherits the other's project access, to-do assignments, and reminders.
Merging cannot be undone. See Merging People before you proceed.
Change Ping & Chat history settings
Adjust how long Basecamp retains Ping and Chat transcripts. By default, history is kept for the life of the account.
Owner actions
Account owners have access to everything above, plus the following.
Handle billing, invoices, packages, and upgrades
Update your credit card, download past invoices, change your plan, and manage upgrades. See Handling Billing and Invoices for the full how-to.
Manage storage
Check your current storage usage, free up space, or purchase additional storage. See Manage Storage for details.
Add/remove account owners
Designate additional co-owners or remove existing ones. Having at least one co-owner is recommended. Owners are the only people who can handle billing and account-level settings, so a backup matters if you're ever unavailable.
Rename this account
Change the name of your Basecamp account as it appears across the product. Renaming the account does not change your Company name.
View everything in the trash
See a full account-wide list of everything deleted across all projects, ordered from oldest to newest. Click any item to restore it, view it, or permanently delete it.
⚠️ NOTE: Comments, Chat messages, and Pings are deleted immediately when trashed. They don't appear here and cannot be restored.
Reassign someone's to-dos
Move all of a person's assigned to-dos to someone else, either across the entire account or within a specific project. Useful when someone leaves the team or changes roles. You'll receive an email confirmation when the reassignment is complete.
Access any project
Add yourself to any project on the account, including ones you weren't originally invited to. Admins can only access projects they've been added to, this permission is restricted to Account Owners
Export data from this account
Download a full export of your account data as HTML files. See [[ILINK: Export Your Basecamp Data]] for what's included and how Ping exports work.
Manage public items
View everything on the account that has an active public link, unpublish individual items, or unpublish everything at once.
Require two-factor authentication
Enforce 2FA for all account members. Once enabled, anyone who hasn't set up 2FA will be prompted to do so on their next login. See: 2FA instructions.
NOTE: Clients are not affected by this permission and can still access your account without 2FA.
Cancel this account
Cancellation takes effect immediately. See Cancel Your Basecamp Account for what happens to your data and how to export it first.
Transferring account ownership
If the original account owner is no longer available and ownership needs to be transferred, contact the Basecamp support team. If the account is owned by a legal entity, we may require verification that the request is coming from a top-level organizational leader — and in some cases, a properly served court order. Email support to start the process.
