Removing people from Projects and your account

⚠️ Only account owners and administrators can remove other people from projects and the account.

There are two levels of removal in Basecamp: removing someone from a specific project, or removing them from your account entirely. Project removal cuts their access to that project only. Their access to other projects remains intact. Account removal ends their access to Basecamp altogether. Only account owners and administrators can remove other people.

Removing a user only removes their access — everything they have contributed (posts, files, etc...) remains on the project. Users are not notified when they are removed from an account or project.

Jump to:

Remove someone from a project

Open the project and click the People icon at the top left. Find the person you want to remove and click Remove, then confirm. They will be removed from the project immediately.

Remove yourself from a project

To leave a project, open the project, click the People icon at the top left. Find your name, and select Remove yourself. Basecamp will ask you to confirm before removing your access. Anything you've posted stays in the project after you leave.

Remove someone from your account

Removing someone from the account ends their access to everything in Basecamp, not just individual projects.

From Home, click Adminland in the upper left. Select Manage people, and click the ••• options menu to the right of the person's name. Choose Edit info, then scroll to the bottom of their profile and click I want to remove [name] from this account. Review the confirmation screen and click Remove [name] completely.
