What changed in from Basecamp 2 to Basecamp 5
If you're used to Basecamp 2, some things in Basecamp 5 will feel familiar and others will take a moment to find. No significant data is lost in the migration, but a few features work differently or live somewhere new. Here are the changes most likely to catch you off guard.
The calendar is back — but standalone calendars don't move
Basecamp 5 has a full calendar again. Each project has its own calendar, and there's a global calendar that shows events across all your projects at once.
One thing that won't migrate from Basecamp 2: standalone calendars. If you used these to track events that weren't tied to a specific project, you'll need to recreate those events manually in Basecamp 5.
Sharing without giving account access
Basecamp 2 had a loop-in feature that let you share a specific message, to-do, or file with someone outside your account. Basecamp 5 handles this with public links.
To share something publicly:
- Open the item you want to share.
- Click the ••• menu in the upper right.
- Select Get a public link, confirm, and copy the link.
Anyone with the link can view that item. But unlike loop-in, they won't be able to see comments on it, edit it, or add their own comments. Public sharing is only available on paid accounts.
Finding all your files in one place
Open the Basecamp menu at the top of the account and select Everything, or press 4 on your keyboard as a shortcut. This page lists every file uploaded to any project you have access to, and you can filter by person or search by name to narrow things down.
Viewing someone's activity and assignments
Open the Jump menu with Ctrl+J (Windows) or Cmd+J (Mac) and search for the person's name. Their profile will pop up with three tabs: their latest activity, their current assignments, and their recently uploaded files all in one place.
