What to do with your Basecamp 2 account after you switch
Once you've moved to Basecamp 5, you have two options for your Basecamp 2 account — and the choice comes down to whether you still need to create new projects there.
Keep creating projects in Basecamp 2
If you're still using Basecamp 2 for new projects, nothing changes. Keep paying as usual and continue using both accounts side by side. You can move between them at any time at launchpad.37signals.com.
Switch Basecamp 2 to a free plan
If Basecamp 5 is where all your new work will live, you can put your Basecamp 2 account on a free preserved plan. This plan is available exclusively to customers who also have an active Basecamp 5 account.
What the free plan includes:
- All your existing Basecamp 2 projects stay exactly as they are
- Your team can still access and work in those projects
- No new projects can be created in Basecamp 2
To switch to the free plan:
- Log into your Basecamp 2 account.
- Click Upgrades in the upper right corner (or use the Account link).
- Select the preserved plan at the top of the page.
That's it. As long as you stay on this plan and keep your Basecamp 5 account active, you won't be charged for Basecamp 2.
If you don't see the free plan option, it likely means the owner of your Basecamp 2 and Basecamp 5 accounts aren't the same person. Both accounts need to have the same owner.
