What to do with your Basecamp 2 account after you switch

Once you've moved to Basecamp 5, you have two options for your Basecamp 2 account — and the choice comes down to whether you still need to create new projects there.

Keep creating projects in Basecamp 2

If you're still using Basecamp 2 for new projects, nothing changes. Keep paying as usual and continue using both accounts side by side. You can move between them at any time at launchpad.37signals.com.

Switch Basecamp 2 to a free plan

If Basecamp 5 is where all your new work will live, you can put your Basecamp 2 account on a free preserved plan. This plan is available exclusively to customers who also have an active Basecamp 5 account.

What the free plan includes:

  • All your existing Basecamp 2 projects stay exactly as they are
  • Your team can still access and work in those projects
  • No new projects can be created in Basecamp 2

To switch to the free plan:

  1. Log into your Basecamp 2 account.
  2. Click Upgrades in the upper right corner (or use the Account link).
  3. Select the preserved plan at the top of the page.

That's it. As long as you stay on this plan and keep your Basecamp 5 account active, you won't be charged for Basecamp 2.

If you don't see the free plan option, it likely means the owner of your Basecamp 2 and Basecamp 5 accounts aren't the same person. Both accounts need to have the same owner.
