Public Links
Share items from Basecamp with people who aren’t part of your project using public links. Anyone with the link can view the item without needing access to Basecamp.
Create public links for messages, to-dos, files, documents, and more, making it easy to share work externally.
Jump to:
Creating a public link
Create a public link from most items in Basecamp.
Open the item you want to share, click the ••• menu, and select Get a public link.

From there, you can choose whether to include comments, then click Generate a shareable, public link.

Once created, you can copy the link, open it, or turn it off at any time.
📝 NOTE: Public links only show the item itself. People won’t be able to see the rest of your project.
Managing public links
After creating a public link, you’ll see the link along with options to copy it, open it, or turn it off.

Turning off a public link immediately removes access. Creating a new public link for the same item generates a new, unique URL.
📝 NOTE: Account owners can manage all public links across the account. See Owner actions for details.
Who can access public links
Anyone with the link can view the item, even if they’re not part of your Basecamp account.
Public links aren’t indexed by search engines, so your content won’t appear in search results. However, if the link is shared elsewhere, the URL itself may appear without exposing your content.
There’s no way to browse or discover public links - they’re only accessible to people who have the URL. Once shared, anyone with the link can view, save, or reshare it.
⚠️ Warning: Don’t share sensitive information using public links. Treat them as publicly accessible URLs.
