Using Basecamp with a VPN

Basecamp works fine with VPNs. Occasionally, though, a VPN's IP address gets flagged by our security systems, usually because others using the same VPN have triggered our filters. If you're seeing a "You've been blocked" page, here's what's happening and how to fix it:

How VPN blocking works

VPNs route your traffic through a shared IP address. If someone else using that same IP has done something suspicious, our security systems may block it automatically, even if you haven't done anything wrong. This is why Basecamp might block you while other sites don't.

Getting unblocked

Connect to a different server or location in your VPN app. That gives you a fresh IP address that hasn't been flagged, and access is usually restored immediately.

If you keep getting blocked after switching servers, try a few different locations. We can't permanently safelist specific VPN IP addresses, but switching servers will frequently resolve issues. If none of them work, contact our support team.

If you're seeing the block page and you're not using a VPN, reach out to support directly and we'll get you unblocked.
