Lineup

See your projects on one timeline — what was just worked on, what's in play now, and what projects are coming up next.

Use it to spot scheduling gaps, plan what's coming next, and check how projects are tracking over time.

To see the Lineup, open the Basecamp menu, click the "Reports" option (or press 3), and select "Lineup" from the list of reports. You can also see the Lineup by typing “Lineup” in the search bar on your Home screen or from the Basecamp menu.

How the Lineup works

The Lineup displays a rolling 13-week timeline with 6 weeks in the past, the current week, and 6 weeks ahead.

Projects appear as bars across the timeline based on their start and end dates. A vertical blue line marks today and stays centered as time moves forward. Current work stays front and center, with upcoming and recently completed projects surrounding it.

Avatars show the team users working on current projects, while Markers highlight important company-wide dates and milestones.

Click any project block to jump directly to that project. To move backward or forward through the timeline, use the “← Prev 6 weeks” and “Next 6 weeks →” buttons located at the top corners.

Adding start and end dates

Only projects with start and end dates will appear on the Lineup.

Click the more options menu "•••" located on the top right and select "Rename & settings":

Here you'll be able to set, adjust, or remove start and end dates for projects:

Head back to the project page and there'll be a new tracker with this information at the top. At a glance, you can see where you are in the project timeline:

If your project has not started, you'll see that indicated in the tracker:

Similarly, if your project has ended, you'll see that indicated in the tracker:

Changing project dates

You can also adjust a project's start and end date without heading to the project's "Rename & settings" page.

Click one of the dates on a project block and a calendar picker will appear. Choose the new start or end date and your project will adjust itself on the Lineup accordingly:

Using markers

Markers highlight significant company-wide dates and milestones. At 37signals, we use markers to highlight cooldowns, meet-ups, and dates important to the whole company.

To add a marker, click the "Add marker" button at the top of the page, fill out the title, select a date, and hit Save. You'll now see the Marker label at the top, along with a light blue vertical line.

All markers are single day and their length at the top is related to how long the title is. Click the Marker to edit the title, change the date, or remove a marker entirely.

🗒️ Note: Only owners and admins are able to add markers to the Lineup.
