Searching

Search helps you quickly find anything in Basecamp - jump straight to a person or recent item, or run a full search across projects and refine the results.

Open search from the Basecamp menu or press Command + J (Mac) or Control + J (Windows/Linux).

Jump to:

Jumping to an item

Start typing to see matching projects, people, recent items, and suggestions right away.

Select any result to jump directly to it, or choose Search for this to run a broader search.

Press Command/Control + Enter to search across all projects, or Shift + Enter to search within the current project.

You can also include archived projects in search results using the toggle at the bottom of the search panel.

Searching across projects

If you don’t see what you’re looking for, continue your search to view full results.

Full results show everything that matches your search, including messages, to-dos, files, and more.

You can search across all projects, limit results to the current project, or include archived projects.

Refining results

Use the sidebar to narrow down your results.

After running a search, refine results by project, tool, person, or time range.

Switch between Best match and Most recent, or filter by projects, tools, or people. You can also choose to hide chats & pings.

Refining your results helps you find what you’re looking for faster without scrolling through everything.

Tips for better results

Search with specific keywords. For example, search for “homepage redesign” instead of “design.”

Use suggestions as you type. Click a suggestion to jump directly to an item without running a full search.

Search within a project. If you know something is in the current project, press Shift + Enter to limit results.

Refine when results are broad. Narrow by content type, person, or project instead of scrolling.
