Automatic Check-Ins
Ask your team recurring questions and collect their answers in one spot. Automatic Check-ins go out to your team on a schedule — daily, weekly, or monthly. Everyone in the project can see the responses, which makes them useful for status updates, team rituals, and just getting to know each other better.
At 37signals, we use check-ins to ask what people are working on, share what we did this weekend, or swap recipes. You can use them to replace status meetings, check team health, or prompt clients to share their concerns on a regular basis.

Set up a Check-in
In the Automatic Check-ins tool, click the + New Question button.
Type your question, choose how often and at what time it goes out. Select who should be asked.
When it's time to answer, everyone you've included will receive a notification.
💡 TIP: A few well-timed Check-ins go a long way. Most projects only need one or two. Spread them out across the week — stacking them all on a Friday morning is a recipe for ignored notifications.
Pause, edit or delete a Check-in
Click 'Edit' at the top right of the Check-in to update the question, frequency, time, or participants.
Click the 'Stop asking this question' link to pause the question. When you're ready to resume, return to Edit and click 'Start asking this question'.
To delete a check-in, click the ••• menu and select 'Put in the trash'.
Opt out of a Check-in
There are two separate notifications you can opt out of: reminders for the question and seeing other people's answers.
- Stop receiving question reminders: click the ••• menu on the check-in and click Stop asking me.
- Stop receiving other user's answers: click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any Check-in email notification, or use the ••• menu on the check-in and click Stop notifying me.
📝 NOTE: You can add or remove people from being asked a check-in question, but you can't control whether others receive answer notifications — only that user can do that. Adding someone to a check-in automatically subscribes them to new answers on that question, so give them a heads up if you're adding them mid-project.
